Typical GM Steel Wheel Shown

The standard GM steel wheel was used on models with the base hubcap or wheel disks.

Usage
All models except Trans Am.

Standard Hubcap

Standard Hub Cap

A new design for 1972 the hubcap would become a popular design.

Usage
Standard on Firebird, Esprit (with trim ring) and Formula.

The 1972 hub cap was unique to this year model until it returned in 1976 and continued through the second generation run through 1981.

P06 Wheel Trim Rings

Option Code 471, UPC P06: Trim Ring

The chrome trim ring was standard on Esprit and available on Firebird and Formula at extra cost with the standard hub cap only. Trim rings were standard when Rally II wheels were ordered except on Trans Am* and Formula when 15 inch tires were ordered (TNL/PM7).

Usage
Standard on Esprit. Available on Firebird and Formula.
Not available with Optional Wheel Discs. Standard with N98 Rally II rims (14 inch).

P01 Deluxe Wheel Disks

Option Code 476, UPC P02: Deluxe Wheel Disks

Deluxe Wheel Covers were offered as option 472/P02 in 1971 but renamed in 1972 to avoid naming conflict with the new Custom Finned Wheel cover, an all new offering, now re-coded P02.
This wheel cover still featured brushed stainless steel appearance surrounded by simulated cooling fins but for 72 the center featured a new Firebird logo.

Available on Firebird, Esprit, and Formula.

P02 Custom Finned Wheel Covers

Option Code 472, UPC P02: Custom Finned Wheel Covers

Not to be confused with the Custom Wheel Cover of 1971 (now offered as the Deluxe Wheel Cover, Option P01) the Custom Finned Wheel Cover was new for 1972 on Firebird.

N98 Rally II with Trim Rings

14-inch diameter. Chrome-plated wheel nuts (Conventional spare wheel provided with Space-Saver Spare Tire).

15 inch Rally II Wheels

The dechromed Rally II wheels were still standard on Trans Am but for 1972 trim rings were added as standard equipment with the 15 inch wheel.
The design ofthe Rally II wheels was slightly altered but it is difficult to tell with the standard trim, rings covering them. The inner radius was significantly less wide.

Standard on Trans Am. Available on Formula with Y99 Performance Package or when option TNL/PM7: Tires, F60 X 15 Raised White Letter with 15 inch Rally II Rims.

P05 Honeycomb Wheel, 15 inch

Originally standard on Trans Am it became an option after production problems. The 15 inch wheel was option on Trans Am, Formula with the Y99 Handling package, or Formula with 15 inch raised white letter tires (PM7).

Rally II Center Cap - Red

Red PMD center caps were the only center cap for Rally II wheels in 1972. These center caps were used from 1970 to 1972.

Honeycomb Center Cap

The center cap for the Honeycomb wheel was unique to the 1972 in that it featured a plain face. Later ornaments with have a Pontiac arrowhead logo.

Standard Spare Tire

The conventional spare tire came with the standard steel wheel. If Rally II wheels were specified, a fifth Rally II wheel was supplied with the spare, unless the Space Saver Spare (UPC N65) was ordered.

Space Saver Spare Tire

Option Code 704 - UPC N65: Space Saver Spare Tire
Adds approximately three cubic feet of usable luggage capacity. Easily inflated with handy pressure can. 1972 Version shown.

Usage
Available on all Firebird models.
Standard on Trans Am and all Firebirds with Rally II Rims.

Part No: 9792737 for 5 inch wide Space Saver. Stamped HI.
Part No: 9793592 for 6 inch wide Space Saver. Stamped KC.
It is uncertain which wheels were delivered with Firebirds. 14x5 or 14x6.
