One of the primary goals of this site is to provide the Firebird hobbyist with resources and information to perform factory correct restorations on their second generation Firebird or Trans Am. In the Corvette and Mustang hobbies there are many resources available for performing concourse restorations but for Firebirds very little accurate information exists and even many show judges deduct or add points incorrectly. Factory documentation in many cases is inacccurate since additions or deletions may have been made after brochure or manual printing or perhaps mid year changes were made due to the lack of available parts or engines. This site uses information from many sources including Pontiac dealer sales albums, dealer technical manuals, parts manuals, interior albums, dealer information bulletins, assembly manuals, repair manuals, and of course the traditional source materials such as Gary Witzenburg's Firebird, America's Premiere Performance Car and The Fabulous Firebird by John Lamm. New pages are being developed to photo-document the small details of decals, emblems, and interiors. Check out the new photo galleries at the right to see pictures of virtually every color of second gen Firebird, with few exceptions.
No single source of Firebird information seems to be 100% accurate in all details so when in doubt original examples from a substantial photo history are examined including trim tag information and build sheets. Oftentimes these documents will point to flaws in the Pontiac documentation so check your facts before telling anyone that a red 1980 Trans Am was never made (not Carousel red which is actually orange). In fact it was made available at some point during the year. If you spot any info that appears to be wrong then e-mail me at steve@tran-zam.com.
